Gallery Opening: Sheryl McCain

During the month of November, the Edmond Fine Arts Institute will host a photography exhibit by Sheryl McLain, of Edmond.

An opening reception is set for 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the FAI.

McLain's passion for photography began when she purchased her first 35 mm camera. At that time, she was pursuing a journalism degree at the University of Central Oklahoma where she processed her own photographs in the university dark room, took photography courses and enjoyed photo assignments.

While working to support her family, McLain spent 25 years in the health care administration and corporate communications arena. In 2010, she left her career to have more time with her family, and rediscovered her passion for photography.

Technology has changed since her college days, but her love for capturing meaningful moments has not. Creating memories of special moments the day a child is born, the love between a newly-engaged couple, or sunrises and sunsets over the Grand Canyon or the hills of Tuscany all bring McLain great joy.

"There is beauty all around us and in every individual," said McLain. "Capturing this beauty in the landscapes and individuals I photograph is truly rewarding."

McLain's exhibit will feature images from her travels to Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Iceland, Albuquerque's International Balloon Fiesta and other locations throughout the United States, including Alaska, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina's Outer Banks and more.
